Last weekend I had the chance to do an engagement photo session for my good friends Aaron and Nici. They are amazing people and it was such a great experience to hang out in the park with them – despite the smatterings of rain.
Aaron and I have been like brothers since I first moved into the house he was living in back in university. I had only met him once or twice before, but we clicked immediately. He has always had a huge lust for life and a deeply passionate curiosity that is infectious to say the least.
When I was looking for a job a few years back he put in a good word for me at the school for kids with autism he worked at – not a bad gig really, I got paid to hang out with one of my best friends and play with the kids all day (well, I suppose we did do some teaching too . . .).
Nici was hired about the same time I was. While neither Aaron nor I remember this very clearly, Nici claims we yelled at her the first day she met us. I suspect we were having fun and got carried away. We get a bit rambunctious at times.
Nici and Aaron clicked immediately, and, as you can see, that connection has only deepened. They have a lot of fun together and, as sappy as it sounds, it warms my heart to be in their company. I wish it were more often.
Those days we worked together feel like a long time ago. We have all since moved to different places, taken new jobs, had new experiences. They were there when Kim and I were married, Aaron standing by me at the front – and I look forward to standing up with them next summer. But some things don’t weaken with time and distance – for which I am very greatful.
When I heard they had decided to get engaged I was ecstatic, and immediately said I wanted to take some photos for them; a small gift to celebrate their love and our continuing history together.
Thanks so much for allowing me to do these for you guys. I hope you like them 🙂
